Managing your My Greens hydroponic tower

So, you brought yourself a My Greens Hydroponic Garden tower, but now what?

A My Greens tower is something that is built to last, so strap in, because you're going to be eating lush greens for many years to come.

Once your tower is all set-up and your plants are loving the life you have created for them, what else do you need to do to ensure a healthy and beautiful crop? Here is what I do weekly to keep our store tower in peak health.

  1. Check the water, is it brown or does it have lots of organic matter (leaves, roots, grime) in it? Then simply enough, turn off your pump, drain your tank and start a fresh tank again. Check your pump filter too, give it a wash out if needed. If your water is looking clear and very little matter in it, then refill with water, test and adjust pH and EC and give the top lid a wipe down.
  2. Check your gullies, this is how we notice what bugs may have moved on to your plants. Looks for brown sludge or any noticeable droppings. Above the droppings you'll find your culprit, usually a caterpillar, remove any found bugs and wash your gullies with a gentle hose spray and a sponge, brush or scrub daddy.
  3. Harvest, remove any plants that are ready to be harvested or take what you need for eating, make many salad variations or gift any leftover produce to friends, family or pet chicken/stock.
  4. Replace any removed plants, this prevents light getting into the gullies. If you're not ready to replant, cover the hole (we are currently working on a good bung source).
  5. Consider plants that are getting too big, this tower is designed for small leafy greens. If you're growing anything substantially larger, consider that they will be difficult to remove from the gullies the bigger they get. Trim larger plants, harvest them, or remove and replace.

And that's it! Your tower will naturally get grubby being outside, keeping it nice and clean will make you feel happier about eating from the tower more freely.
