What to plant in Autumn in your Hydroponic NFT System

Autumn Planting Guide for Hydroponics in New Zealand

As the heat of summer fades and cooler temperatures arrive, autumn becomes one of the best seasons for growing hydroponic crops. Many plants actually prefer the milder conditions that autumn brings, making it an ideal time to grow leafy greens, herbs, and fast-growing vegetables.

Whether you're growing outdoors or in a greenhouse, My Greens hydroponic towers allow you to extend your growing season and produce fresh food well into winter.

Let’s look at what grows best and how to get started with autumn hydroponic planting.

March

Get the last of those Summer harvests whilst the sun is still shining. It's a great time to plant: Lettuces, mesclun, rocket, watercress, peas and beans, celery, kale, chives, dill, parsley, weeping thyme, spring onions, leeks, spinach and silverbeet.

April

Less white butterfly around now! Plant: Mini cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. Plus lettuces, mesclun, peas and beans, celery, kale, chives, leek, bok choi, parsley, dill, weeping thyme, spring onions, leeks, watercress, peas and beans, spinach and silverbeet.

May

Continue to plant: Mini cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, plus lettuces, mesclun, peas and beans, celery, kale, chives, leek, bok choi, parsley, weeping thyme, spring onions, leeks, watercress, spinach and silverbeet.

And before you know it, it will be Winter. Check back and wee what we are planting for our Winter crops soon.
